~MOTIVATION~
(What did I accomplish last week?)
My goal last week was to set my alarm and get up before the kids during the week. Which I did exactly four out of five "work" days. Though it's tempting to bemoan the days I didn't meet my goal, I will recognize that I gave my kids (and myself!) four more days of breakfast together and four fewer hours of TV (or sleep in my case. Not the point though). Other accomplishments: I learned some sign language to communicate with an awesome preschool mom who is hearing-impaired, and was reminded of my love of languages in general. I helped write a grant request, designed some flyers, and submitted an application. I collected leaves, raked leaves, and jumped in the leaves with my kids. I also did much of the following while limping around with the Face of Shame; apparently getting old involves being able to render my ankle useless without even knowing how I did it. No cool story to redeem me. Although (last but not least), in light of all the comments last week about the evils of the post office, I did actually go (gimp) to the post office this week. Not once. Not twice. But three times. With kids in tow. All for the same package. Customs form drama, if you must ask. But we survived--and that I consider an accomplishment!
~DIRECTION~
(What realistic goal(s) do I want to set for this week?)
I'm staying on course this week for more quality time with the kids as my six months (and counting) of adjusting to stay-at-home-momhood continues.
~ACCOUNTABILITY~
(What little steps am I going to take to help get there?)
The getting up with my alarm goal remains. As one smart cookie suggested last week, I might have to just locate said alarm across the room. I'm also finally getting around to Part III of The Contentment Project and going "unplugged" this week! I'm not going to fall off the face of the earth or anything; I think it's unrealistic to cut myself off cold turkey from all social media and live a lifestyle I won't maintain. I'll will, however, attempt to define dedicated blocks of time for social media so the kids aren't having to literally pry my face away from the computer screen or phone every few minutes. It's kind of a problem. So hopefully I can come up with some sort of schedule that will stick--suggestions welcome! And with that, it's your turn! Motivation: Met my goal of 3 blog posts. Made a sad little button to join the 31 Days of... series. Did fairly decent at waking up early. Twitter & Pinterest know who I am now, and I've gained some Twitter followers.
ReplyDeleteDirection: Figure out how to give the right amount of time and attention to the bloggers I follow. (maybe not spending as much time on a comment as I do a post would help.) 3 blog articles as well as 7 Book Recommendations on my blog this week & Friday Free Kindle finds... WHAT DID I DO??!!
Accountability - Set my alarm for 6 again - across the room. (only way it works). Write to a theme for my blog this month. "Preparing To Have Ears to Hear". Sounds fancy... more like.. "Here's what I had to do to get clear direction for my life - Sit down, Shut up, and Listen (or read). Shhhhhh!!!!" (All said with LOVE) This will be after today's post, since I already wrote it.
Well done! You've got me all excited for the Friday Free Kindle finds, tapping my foot already.
DeleteWhen you're trying to grow it's hard to strike a balance between measuring success in quantity as opposed to quality. I've been struggling with that. But I heard at a recent conference that while it's good to get have a following, it's more important to bring yourself back to the reason you're writing in the first place in order to really grow. It's not for every single one of the 1,042 followers, it's for the few readers whose lives you'll truly touch through your message. That's when the most growth occurs. So that really made me re-evaluate things and focus more on the content and relationships! I like the "If you have ears to hear" concept! Sometimes something as simple as "My Story" is enough to grab this girl. Whatever it is, I can't wait to sit down and read it (during my devoted social media time, of course)!
Last week was one of those weeks where I don't feel like I did much worthwhile. This week I will be traveling, so my motivation is to not lose my sanity flying with a squirmy one year old! But seriously, my motivation is to run a couple times before I leave because I didn't last week and I could tell that I felt more blagh and didn't have as much energy. So my motivation is to not feel that way. Direction - to the east! Ha, but literally, yeah - that's my run route. I'd like to clean the house very well before I leave, pack EARLY (ha.ha - that's my inner dialogue laughing at me already) and pack LIGHT!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start packing today. If I just start at least getting out the bags and laying out some of the clothes Finn and I will need it will help make things less stressful last minute. Also, I need to start cleaning some things now and capitalize on nap-times and not save it all for the night before I leave.
I know what your mean about being sluggish when you don't get to exercise enough. Definitely part of my problem right now. Hope you've gotten at least one run in by now!
DeleteAnd what a little jet-setter! More to add to the map :) Good luck packing...it seems that no matter how many lists I have ready ahead of time, I never end up with enough time or room in the suitcases. Maybe that's why we don't travel as much as we should these days. I've seen some pretty good suggestions about flying with a little on a flight, you're probably an old pro by now but I'll try to remember to find/send them!
