Make It Count Monday - Vol. 5

A link-up of Goals and Accomplishments!

Happy fall Monday to all! Here's my evaluation from last week's goals: I actually did pretty well at "unplugging" this week; I deleted my shortcuts to Facebook and Pinterest and all of those other time-stealers, which helped immensely, and I limited (most) of my social media time to during naptime and after the kids were in bed. I still got distracted on occasion or prolonged some of my online visits, but it was a marked improvement from last week. And a vast improvement overall. And you know what? It's amazing how much I didn't miss it. And how much more seemed to be going on in my real life (and how much less was going on in my online life) when I wasn't as invested in my addiction. I still had to fight that nervous twitch of mindlessly checking my phone every other minute, but the deleted apps helped curb it. I felt like I finally claimed a healthy balance between enjoying the benefits of connecting digitally while still staying invested in the beautiful little blessings in front of me. I'll be writing more about the specifics of what I did for Part III of The Contentment Project, so stay tuned! As far as the laundry, let's just say I did less than I said I would but more than I have in awhile! Now to find enough motivation to fold it all...

~MOTIVATION~
What did I accomplish last week?
Monday was Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, so I spent the evening talking with my kids about all the beautiful babies in heaven (including their siblings) and we honored them by lighting a candle. Then they kept asking when they could blow the candle out. These kids of mine...just too adorable! We had two play dates, I raked more leaves, and I called the plumber because garbage disposals are no fun when they break. I also wrote another guest post, went grocery shopping with all three kids (at lunchtime--not recommended) and survived, and made a few Halloween decorations for the house. And yes, I did a few loads of laundry while I was at it!

~DIRECTION~
What's my goal for this week?
A little shift in the quality time goal-setting department: more quality time with my husband this time around! Also making some Halloween costumes and lots of party planning and prep for my little guy who thinks he can turn one already next week.

~ACCOUNTABILITY~
What steps will I take to move toward that goal?
My husband and I spend a lot of time apart due to his work and grad school and my commitments on the weekends. When we do spend time together it's usually relaxing so we can both decompress, but often we're watching TV or on the computer and not exactly focused on each other. We give a lot of our time in other ways, but not as much as we want--or should--to each other. So we came up with a plan to set aside some daily quality time with only each other.  We settled on ten or fifteen minutes together right after the kids go to bed before we both run off to worry about dishes or writing or homework (another reason why I'm glad he's doing grad school instead of me!). Just a few minutes for the two of us to catch up, enjoy the quiet house, and focus on each other--no TV or computer or dishes or other distractions allowed. I can't wait! I'll also be seizing some naptime moments to finish those Halloween costumes and do the party prep. I'd much rather stay in denial, but my procrastination alarm usually gets so loud one week out that I can't ignore it any longer!

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!

  1. I love the idea of removing the quick links to the time stealing apps. This may be something I tackle very soon. I love quality time with my husband. We play a game on Scrabble almost every Sunday. :)
Hope you have a wonderful and productive week!

    1. That's great that you have a standing date! And that Scrabble can bring you together! Ironically, we actually have a no-Scrabble rule in the house--we get so competitive that it could quite possibly destroy our marriage (mostly because I'm a such a poor sport and I want to inflict bodily harm when he steals my spots. I don't though)! So we've learned to play more evenly-matched games together. ;)

Happy Monday and good luck unplugging!

    2. Hilarious! Shared this tidbit with my husband. I feel bad when I steal his spots, but he says that's the point...to play defensively. Thanks! :)

  2. Ha - funny you mentioned this because last week I deleted my facebook app on my phone - was just too time consuming and almost embarrassing at how often I would go on. I've gone on so much less and feel a lot better. I like your goals this week. Miles goes off to the field next week so we definitely need good "us" time. Not sure what the rest of my goals are. . .hmmmm, best get thinking :)

    1. It really did feel better...a few times I got on FB without much time in between and was just really annoyed and bored seeing the same stuff on there and realizing I wasn't missing anything!

How about a goal of "relax before it gets crazy because Miles is going to be gone for a whole week...AGAIN"?! Just sayin' ;) Hope you do get some good quality time in!
