Make It Count Monday - Vol. 9

A link-up of Goals and Accomplishments!

Evaluation from last week: My goal was simple--to love others more. I failed miserably. Well, I guess I had a few redeeming moments. But we had an unexpectedly stressful and anxiety-ridden week (things like car troubles, the third offer on the house we still own fell through, our heat went out, etc.), which unfortunately didn't bring out the best in me. But I did spend some time baking with the kids, and I stopped once or twice to admire all how adorable they are and remind myself of all the many things I love about them; I also checked myself a few times when some less-than-kindly thoughts started to take over. Hopefully I'll fare much better this week, though!

~MOTIVATION~
What did I accomplish last week?
Although some of my accomplishments weren't intended, I did get a fair amount done this week. As I said, I baked with the kids (which helped warm up the house until the heating repairman arrived!), I applied for and started on some freelance writing gigs, I (we) spent pretty much the entire day on Saturday braving car dealerships, the latter part of which involved coming up with creative ways to keep three very tired kiddos entertained in the showroom, and I (we) got a new--and more importantly reliable--car. I also made the bed everyday, continued to keep the house in good order, kept up with the laundry, and cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom while waiting for the nice repairman to fix the furnace (note: hot water + freezing hands = instantly chapped hands). Not bad considering that I didn't even set out to do some of those things!

~DIRECTION~
What's my goal for this week?
Goal #1: Be thankful! Especially since it's Thanksgiving week!

Goal #2: Making and keeping an exercise schedule. It's a team goal that my husband and I have wanted to put in place for awhile now. But between work and grad school and three kids with different needs and schedules, it just hasn't really happened. I even looked up triple jogging strollers at one point (because I haven't figured out how to run with three kids) but sticker shock shut down that idea in about two seconds. That and I would probably be walking instead of jogging anyway trying to push my brood in that thing.  So other than turning on my Wii Yoga/Pilates a few times or going on a handful of quick runs, I haven't really done much. As impatient as we were to get out of the Army, it was nice having exercise built into our schedule each morning and not having to figure out where to squeeze it in.   [Aside: I fully reject the idea of exercise simply for the sake of appearance or to fit in a size double zero. Its goal should be for overall health, strength, and wellness, period. We should not have to attach our worth to weight or size--if we do, then we are just as unhealthy emotionally...which is a very bad place to be!]

~ACCOUNTABILITY~
What steps will I take to move toward that goal?
Goal #1: Sarah over at ...And Twins Make Four has a pretty awesome and inspiring link-up for Thoroughly Thankful Thursdays--so I'll be writing down my blessings this week Thoroughly Thankful-style!

Goal #2: My husband and I have a workout schedule in place for this week (which already started yesterday, woohoo!) where we trade off staying with the kids at night so the other person can go to the gym. I set the ole' phone reminder for some home workouts, too (I've got plenty of workouts waiting on the DVR, and can easily do abs on the living room floor--so even if I can't leave the house, I have no excuse)! We also have four amazing (and free!) Rec Centers in our community which offer open turf time on the weekends when their indoor turf is open to the public. We've taken the kids to run around before and they love it, so we'll use some Saturdays to let the kids burn off some steam while we take turns running the indoor track.

  1. Wow, you had a really productive week! Congrats on the new car. Reliable transportation is definitely a must, especially with kids. I love the idea of taking your kiddos along to exercise with you and making it a family affair! What a great way to set a good example. You just inspired me to get a little exercise in before bed!

    Have a great week!
