Doves for Finnegan

She told me about a little boy named Finnegan. He's in kindergarten and has been battling malignant brain tumors since the age of two. He was doing better, but they recently discovered a new tumor in his brain. He is currently receiving bi-weekly chemo treatments.
Treatment isn't easy for anyone, but it's especially hard when you're a five-year-old little trooper. And while modern medicine is a powerful thing, we know that it's just as important to have an even more powerful network of love and support during treatment and beyond.
So Amanda came up with a beautiful idea to rally that support and show Finnegan how important and loved he is. She asked as many people from as many states (and countries!) as possible to commit to being "Prayer Warriors" for Finnegan. She sent a paper dove to anyone who agreed, on which we could write our name and location. She told us to then mail the dove back to Finnegan so he can post each dove on a special map to keep track of his prayer warriors and see just how much the world loves him. (She was trying to remain anonymous but the postal service unfortunately blew her cover!)
So this week, the kids decorated our dove and worked on some other creations to mail to him, and I did my best to answer their questions about what it means to be five years old and have cancer. As we looked at his pictures and learned all about him, my heart was just taken by Finnegan and his sweet smile. I asked Amanda about sharing his story, and she agreed that it's one that needs to make its way into others' hearts and prayers as well. We will pray for Finnegan and his family every night during bedtime prayers, but I know that with all the wonderful people in the world, there is so much more that can be done for him!
So if you're reading this and feel that tug on your heart too, I invite you to say a prayer or send well wishes to Finnegan and his family right this second.
If you, too, can commit to thinking of him and praying for him daily, that would be even better.
And if you and your kids/family want to send him some love in the mail, that would be just incredible--and very deeply appreciated! Just email me at megan@positivelyimperfect (dot) com or send a quick message through my contact page and I'll send you his address right away.
I keep thinking how awesome it would be if Finnegan's map becomes so full that he can't even see it anymore, with all the doves and love covering it (and covering him)! I would be so, so grateful if you decide to help support him in any way!
If you want to keep up with Finnegan and receive updates, his family has set up a CaringBridge site at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/finnegano/mystory. And if nothing else, remember to pause for just a second right now and send him some love.
Thank you all from the very bottom of my heart!

Thank you for this, Megan.
ReplyDeleteI messaged you.
Have a wonderful day, my friend.
Oh Megan! I can't even imagine. We are definitely adding Finnegan and his family to our prayers. As a family, we pray for all of the intentions on our hearts every morning - and Finnegan will now have a piece of that. <3
