Some Good News

So many events this week have been all sorts of rough and unforgiving in our world.

But the ugliness that has come out of it all...woah buddy. Even more terrible and unforgiving.

It's clear that for some reason there's been a huge shift in how we allow tragedies to shape us--ten, fifteen years ago when tragedy struck, most of us allowed it to remind us of what was most important, we allowed it to bring out the best in us, we allowed it to unite us despite our differences, we used it to give birth to important, thoughtful discussions.

In our current culture, tragedy seems to ignite the opposite in us; it's become a catalyst for blaming and jumping on platforms, bitterly tearing each other down for no good reason, and in sum, turning ourselves as Americans against each other. This reality has run especially rampant this week, and I was tired of being continually sucked into the negativity in a thousand different ways--to the point where I deleted some apps and blocked social media sites for awhile. It's such a far cry from what we as a country are meant to be. Such a distressing departure from what our forefathers fought for us to stand for.

And that's all I'm going to say about that, because the Internet doesn't need one more clanging, clashing, could-be-misconstrued statement that doesn't do anyone any good; my simple point is, the direction I see us all headed makes me sad. So instead of letting the negativity continue to bombard me and feed my despondence about the world, I decided to go looking for the good. And then I decided I'd share it with you. Because just as negativity breeds more negativity, so the good and love in people breeds more good.

Maybe you've seen some of these stories or posts before, maybe you haven't; either way here are links to seven good news stories that were well worth my time and attention and mental energy. I hope they inspire all the goodness and love and hope in humanity that we should strive to perpetuate, and warm your heart in the same way they did mine. Get your tissues ready.
