About Me

Welcome!
I'm Megan. Wife, mom, writer, sometimes soldier, tea and book lover.

My faith is central to who I am.

I'm a binge reader, a disorganized domestic train wreck who's trying to try, and an abmivert who teeters between the traits of an extroverted helper and a sensitive introvert. Snarkasm helps me cope. Superficiality makes me look awkward. But if you want to just chat about the real and messy and ironic and beautiful of life, I think we'll get along quite well. Just push aside some of the laundry on the couch while I grab some tea...

The Blog
I write for many reasons. Sometimes to preserve memory, often for therapy, occasionally for the simple joy of knitting together words that breathe life into my soul's musings. Sometimes a combination of the above. I'm a chaser of authenticity and positivity, and Positively (Im)Perfect is a space where I can do just that--be the imperfect yet positive person I am, reacting to the imperfect and real of life through the lenses God has given me. I love how interacting with you and the world in this space has made those lenses wider.

I'm also a humble contributor to Blessed Is She, a women's devotional ministry, and I dabble on occasion in the freelance world. To check out some of my publications, you can visit my Published Work page.

Our History: The Elevator Version

We are a little family on a big journey.

I spent most of my formative years in and around Army uniforms. Despite the unique challenges of military life, my journey has brought me an array of life experiences and relationships that I wouldn't trade for the world. Most notably, I got my husband--and by proxy, our little family!--out of the deal. It's a good story, that one.
With my dad, circa 19080s

My husband and I completed our Army obligations a few years ago and moved across the country to his hometown in Colorado, where I tried on the role of stay-at-home-mom for the first time. This brings with it its own set of challenges; it's so much harder than I imagined, and also way more rewarding than I ever thought possible. Simply put: I never thought I'd cry so much or laugh so hard!

I eventually dug out my uniform again to play Army on some weekends, because being a grown-up sometimes means having a job.

It's not every day you get to have a
husband-wife change of command!

But I still get to spend nearly every day with my kids, loving them, learning from them, and figuring out how to support them in their own unique journeys. My journey through early loss and life-long endometriosis has also led me down a road of suffering, discovery, and most recently hopeful healing--it's a path through which God speaks love and truth and bids me to draw closer to Him. I also occasionally dump photos of my adorable family and our (mis)adventures over at my personal blog, Home Sweet Hjelmstad
