What I Read in 2018 - aka The Brief Resurrection of My Blog

Image
I'm publishing a blog post--a Christmas Miracle! It likely won't happen for another year, but I might never forgive my bibliophile self (and you might not either) for skipping this year's official record of my reads, so here it is!.   I thought my list was relatively short this year, but discovered the opposite after going through my my titles: the standard WWII collection, fiction and non, audiobooks, kids stuff, spiritual reads --the whole enchilada-- with my totally subjective ratings, content analysis, and the briefest of reviews (wink) I could manage for each.  Fiction // Historical Fiction // Based on True Story  The Women in the Castle - 3.5 Stars New concept WWII book about a trio of German women whose husbands perish in a failed plot against Hitler, exploring how their lives play out. Phenomenal writing style - I literally stopped a few different times to marvel at a sentence or phrase simply for its beauty and creativity. Initially I didn

What I read in 2017

This post is a miracle you guys, because blogging in this season takes colossal effort. But I'm making it happen because I know if I don't, the Megan of next year will be so annoyed with the Megan of today. Future Megan: Thank you.   Current Megan: You'd better be grateful. Moving along... This was probably my worst reading year in recent history, but I'm okay with that, because #lifeyo. I'm in an Army course right now that's just shy of Master's-level in both time commitment and work load, so while I can indeed claim copious amounts of reading, only a small portion of that can be relegated to pleasure versus subjects that make me want to gouge my eyes out. (Granted, some of the leadership and military history stuff is mildly interesting, but it can't balance out the other 30 hours per week lost on things like government contracting and how a good idea fairy becomes a tank). Onward and upward! -- Happily, I wrote a historical fic

First Quarter {2017} Book List!

I've actually gotten through a decent number of books since the start of the New Year. I immediately chased after a few new titles from my favorite genre of World War II memoirs/historical fiction before reeling it back in; since then, I've tried to stick with books already downloaded in my Kindle "stack" before getting any more. For the most part, this meant finishing a few series of classics; those well-written, but more relaxed, meandering reads that sometimes take a little longer. It's been a good departure from more intriguing but sometimes less substantial page-turners I often reach for. Here's the list so far... Finished Reading Kiss Every Step |  Doris Martin An incredible memoir of a Jewish family in Poland that managed to all survive the Holocaust, even though they were separated; one even ended up at a camp, and virtually all the remaining Jews from their village were wiped out. I found out about this book from a friend who met the a

It's that time again - the year in review, IN BOOKS!  I don't feel like I fared as well as I did last year, but as I starting tapping out my list I realized I just plain forgot about some of the books I'd read, and I have a few more unfinished reads that last year. It's been no secret that this has been a tough few months for me (and all of humanity, I think), so we're just going to call it that 4th Quarter, 2016 was just a hard stretch to slog through for lots of people for lots of reasons. Books included. But it all evens out in the end, On to the fun part, though - the actual books! --- Back when I was on my game and trying to keep up with my reads quarterly, I did some good in-depth reviews of the individual books in The Parting Breath Series, The Name of the Wind Series , and Everyone Brave is Forgiven . Links are included - because no one needs me to re-write what I've already written! What I Read The Parting Breath Series |  Monic
